The advertising slogan for the 140th anniversary of the Shimotsuke Shimbun “100% love for Tochigi”.

The Shimotsuke Shimbun which first issue was published on the 1st June 1878 marked the 140th anniversary this year.
The Shimotsuke Shimbun set “Kyodo to tomoni asu wo hiraku (Develop tomorrow with local communities)” as the slogan briefing the company philosophy. This year is a milestone.

The Shimotsuke Shimbun set “Kyodo to tomoni asu wo hiraku (Develop tomorrow with local communities)” as the slogan briefing the company philosophy. This year is a milestone. As the only one local newspaper in Tochigi, the Shimotsuke Shimbun created another slogan “100% love for Tochigi” to celebrate it. The company continues to deliver newspapers with passion about the local communities and will organize the special projects for celebration.

he Shimotsuke Shimbun 140th anniversary special edition “#MIRAInoSHOZO”

Many rural areas in Japan including Tochigi face the issue on rapid depopulation due to low birthrate and outflow of rural population.

As many people say, “Rural areas become less lively” and “The economy of rural areas is on the decline”, how shall we preserve and revitalize the local industries and communities? The 140th anniversary special edition features various efforts using new technologies such as AI, ICT and IoT and proposals to design the future of Tochigi.

“True civilization neither ruins mountains, pollutes rivers, destroys villages, nor kills people.” Keeping this Shozo Tanaka’s statement in mind, the special edition designs the future vision for the hometown through new technologies and cultures.
